Dessert for the 4th of July
What’s better than dessert? Dessert made with gin. Inspired by a post from The Cooking Channel we took to making gin filled dessert this week. Filled with red and blue fruit and Aviation American Gin, this dessert is ready to celebrate America this 4th of July.
- 3 packets unflavored gelatin powder
- 3/4 cup cold water
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 1/2 cups ginger beer
- 1/2 cup Aviation American Gin
- 1 cup sliced strawberries
- 1 cup blueberries
Add the gelatin to the cold water in a mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 2 minutes. Then, add boiling water and stir until gelatin is fully dissolved. Add sugar and stir until well combined. Add ginger beer and Aviation American Gin. Pour 2 cups of the mixture into a separate bowl. Refrigerate the 2 cups until the mixture hardens slightly. It should be gel like.
Meanwhile, place sliced strawberries in bunt pan. When ready, pour 2 cups of slightly thickened gelatin mixture into the strawberry filled pan. Place bunt pan in refrigerator until firm but not set. Place the remaining gelatin mixture in the refrigerator to to harden into gel. Remove the strawberry layer earlier if needed to prevent from setting. Mix the blueberries into the gel and place mixture on top of strawberry layer. Refrigerate until set.
To get dessert out of bunt pan, soak pan in a larger bowl of hot water for about 15 seconds.
Tip: If you want to make the dessert extra boozy, you might try soaking the fruit in Aviation Gin for about 15-20 minutes before making the jello.
