Hosting a football party is as American as…well, football. The seven layer dip, the hamburgers and the chicken wing recipes are ready to go. The grill has been cleaned and the foosball table is ready for the halftime entertainment. The only thing left to figure out are the drinks.
Sure, we could fill the cooler with typical American beer but that’s just not our style. This year, we’re aiming to impress our friends as much as those 90-yard-return-for-the-touchdown plays. Luckily, I have access to one of the Nation’s best bartenders, Brooke Arthur. She’s been experimenting with Widmer Beer and Aviation Gin to come up with a cocktail so good, it may become eligible for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Beer cocktails are those unique drinks that both men and women will claim to love, and mean it, which means they’re perfect for any Super Bowl party.
- 1½ oz Aviation Gin
- 1 oz Lemon juice
- 1 oz Honey syrup*
- 3 oz Widmer Hefeweizen
In a pint mixing glass, combine all mixers and spirits (through honey syrup). Shake vigorously. Strain into a collins glass filled with or without ice. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
*To make honey syrup: Combine equal portions of honey and water in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil until all the sugar has dissolved. Let cool.
